EMU student tells police professor 'kicked' him to wake him during class-time nap

An Eastern Michigan University student may have been too tired to stay awake in class Monday, but he found the energy to report his professor to campus police for waking him up with what he called a “kick.”

EMU Police Chief Bob Heighes said a student was asleep in a 3 p.m. class in Pray-Harrold Hall Monday with his legs stretched out and a hat pulled down over his eyes. Heighes said the student told police the professor kicked him in the feet to wake him up.

The student reported the incident to police at 6:11 p.m., according to a university crime summary.

Heighes said police interviewed the professor, who said “he believed the student was sleeping and asked him to wake up.”

The investigation into the incident is over because the student does not want to press charges after filing the report, according to Heighes.

Heighes said the student — who apparently is physically larger than the professor he accused of kicking him — simply wants to change in to a different class.
