A 20-year-old Dexter man was arrested after fleeing in a car across the lawn of the Webster Township home where he and two other men are suspected of stealing jewelry.

Police were dispatched to the 7000 block of Quail Ridge Thursday after the homeowner came home around 4:30 p.m. and noticed a strange car in the driveway. She then noticed three men walk from behind the home and get into the car. The suspects then drove across the front lawn to avoid contact with her.

Deputies from the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office were provided a description of the vehicle and found it a short time later in the Dexter area. Police arrested the 20-year-old, but the other two men were no longer with him. They may have been dropped off before police located the vehicle, said Sgt. Geoff Fox of the sheriff's office.

Police believe the suspects forced open a sliding glass door in the back of the house, which was then ransacked. A significant amount of jewelry was stolen.

The 20-year-old is currently in custody at the Washtenaw County Jail. Police said he is not being cooperative. The incident still is under investigation.

When asked if the arrest was at all related to the recent rash of break-ins in the Dexter area, Fox said, "We don't know. It's being looked at."

On July 31, jewelry, video games and DVDs were reported stolen from 5800 block of Madden in Dexter Township. This came a few days after a warning from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office about a man “casing” homes to rob in the western part of the county.

On July 27, three vehicles were broken into in Dexter. A day later, a home invasion was reported in Dexter Township that resulted in around 60 video games and DVDs being stolen.
