Deputies: Large dog scares away potential home invader
A big dog scared away a potential intruder at a Salem Township home Monday afternoon, according to Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office deputies.
Deputies reported being dispatched to the home in the 8800 block of Brookville Road for a report of an attempted home invasion.
According to investigators, someone pried open the rear door of the home. But, the large dog inside the residence managed to scare off the intruder before anything could be stolen.
Witnesses told deputies three people were inside a light-colored minivan in the home’s driveway during the time frame of the incident.
The investigation into the incident continues. Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office anonymous tip line at 734-973-7711 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-SPEAK UP (773-2587).

My German shepherd would give her life for HER family. They were smart to run. BTW I never worried about anyone bothering this house or our child playing in the yard. This same dog never learned the stop barking command even when friends go walking by. Shes very loud. Yep--- they are great alarms!! Good girl~~ momma loves her 'little' girl-

Wow! Amazing to see so many kudos for a dog! But give the hooples a few minutes to forget, and they'll be crying wolf about all of the horrors of letting our 15-minute hero, Rin-Tin-Tin, have a dog park he can stretch his legs in. How soon they forget!

Is it just me or are we experiencing a substantial amount of home invasions and car break-ins? Maybe we hear about them more because of AA.com but it just seems like this wasn't happening as much ten years ago.

Too bad witnesses didn't record the license number of the light-colored mini van in the driveway. Was a statement taken from the dog or the perps confirming that it had been the canine that discouraged the theft?

Actually, when investigating my neighbors home invasion, the police came to my door and when greeted by three dogs with loud deep barks, assured me that my dogs definitley prevented them from breaking into my house. (I had heard knocking earlier, but when I got to the door no one was there--had no idea it was theives that just went next door)
