Deputies investigate daylight break-ins

By Cindy Heflin

Washtenaw County sheriff’s deputies are investigating two daylight home break-ins in which thieves stole cash and other items Wednesday.

The first occurred between noon and 3 p.m. in the 2100 block of Bradley Street in Ypsilanti Township. Someone entered the home through a rear window and stole cash, bracelets, necklaces and several rings, sheriff’s deputies said in a media summary.

The second occurred between 4 and 7 p.m. in the 1700 block of Knollwood Bend in Superior Township. Someone forced open a rear door and stole cash and several food items, deputies said.

No suspects have been identified in either break-in.

Anyone with information in either case is asked to call the sheriff’s office confidential tip line at (734) 973-7711 or 1-800-SPEAK UP.

It pays to have a doggie in the window, and not one hand bag dogs either.

25 years ago we had a single dog of the same breed we now have. We suffered a break in and they not only took items but the dog as well! Our solution was to get a Dobie who was Show, Attack and Guard trained. Never had a reoccurence. Recently, having walked up to the front door after work and catching them otherwise preoccupied, I inserted the key in the lock to open the door. I was immediately greeted by three menacing faces in the window, all baring fangs and barking ferociously. I was mightily impressed and had I been an intruder would've wasted no time in making an exit, stage left!

I have 2 dogs and live in the neighborhood of one of the break ins. Didn't stop them from taking my computer in December!

We've got three 50+ pound "watch dogs." In reality they wouldn't hurt anyone (unlike guard dogs) but collectively they present a formidable presence in the front bay window. They let us know whenever someone comes a calling.
