Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said investigators were called at 10:40 a.m. Thursday to the store at 221 W. Liberty St. for a report of a break-in. Employees told police the intruder forced open an unlocked side window.

Bush said the only thing missing from the store was a cash register that contained an unknown amount of money. The intruder likely exited through the same window since all of the other doors to the business were still locked Thursday morning.

The store does have security cameras and police are reviewing footage as a part of the investigation, Bush said.

Anyone with information on the incident is encouraged to call the Ann Arbor police anonymous tip line at 734-794-6939.

Don't want your cash register stolen? Obviously take the money out. Leave the drawer open so the thieves can see there's no money in it.

It just amazes me that anyone would leave cash in a register overnight. Let alone leaving things like windows unlocked. Sounds a bit too convienet but then again, nothing amazes me anymore short of hanging a sign out that reads "hey, break in here. Free stuff and money".

No one said there was any money in the register; the quote was 'unknown amount'. Also, the window may have been left open by the same person that came back to steal the money. Thefts are usually internal.

It's the easiest way to force open a window--if it's unlocked. But maybe there was "stuff" blocking it from the inside. Not necessarily against city code.
