Ann Arbor woman punched in the face after canoeing trip to Gallup Park
A 31-year-old Ann Arbor woman was punched in the face while waiting for a ride from Gallup Park to Argo Park following a day of canoeing, according to police.
Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said the woman was waiting at the park for a city van to come pick her up and take her back to the Argo Park Canoe Livery at 6:10 p.m. Sunday. While she was waiting, she saw a 33-year-old Ypsilanti woman staring at her, according to Bush.
The Ann Arbor woman asked the Ypsilanti woman if she needed something and, after words were exchanged, the Ypsilanti woman approached her and punched her in the face, according to Bush.
Both women had been drinking, Bush said. The Ann Arbor woman did not seek medical treatment.

Ha. "Asked her if she needed something." I can totally see it. "Miss, I can see you're looking at me, is there anything I might do to help you out?" Yep, that's probably how it went. Because that's exactly the kind of exchange that leads to a fist fight. Between women.

I don't care if a person is from Ypsi or Ann Arbor. I do care that two inebriated individuals decided that a busy public park was a good place to throw down. Have any criminal charges been filed, like assault and public drunkenness? If not, why not?

Did the fight have anything to do with a naked dancing man ?

Why do these women have to be referred to by their residence? Is that really necessary to tell the story?

No, not all stories do. These don't: http://www.annarbor.com/news/crime/ann-arbor-police-arrest-man-suspected-of-robbing-broadway-party-store/ http://www.annarbor.com/news/crime/elderly-man-flashes-canoeing-women-dances-naked-in-furstenberg-nature-area/

Well...doesn't every story give that information?

Doing so just perpetuates the stereotype that Ypsilanti is a rough place and it isn't at all. This happened in Ann Arbor anyway.

It's common to state where they are from. Residence in a choice one makes, and is not reflective of them as a person. Nowhere does it indicate who was at fault - for all we know the Ann Arbor woman deserved to be punched or the other woman was out of control? It's impossible to say simply from the report. I choose to not lay judgement, but rather know that the incident occurred between someone from Ann Arbor and someone from Ypsilanti. Ask yourself this question, if the report was "two women from ann arbor" would you have thought it odd that they stated where they were from ?

You wouldn't have even have said that if both had been from Ann Arbor and the article stated such. The minute Ypsi is introduced people get crazy on both ends - those who think Ypsi is a bad area and those who are overly sensitive to any seemingly negative remark made about Ypsi. If you'll notice, the origin of the person is mentioned in every story - it's what they call journalism.

This little area was quite the place for debauchery over the holiday weekend. It's a shame I went up north, had I known this type of excitment was in my own backyard I might have stuck around.

I think this pretty much sums up the relationship between Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti.

Yeah, pretty much. Ann Arbor is always punching us in the face.
