Ann Arbor police investigate attempted robbery on East William Street

By Lee Higgins

Ann Arbor police are investigating an attempted armed robbery Thursday night outside The Beer Depot in the 100 block of East William Street, police spokeswoman Lt. Renee Bush said.

A man told police another man approached him at 11:55 p.m. and told him to hand over his cigarettes, police said.

The would-be robber pulled out a knife, but left the area on a bicycle without taking anything, Bush said.

He was described as black, 5 feet, 10 inches tall, 30 to 40 years old, and was wearing a dark blue jacket and blue jeans, police said.

Anyone with information can call the department's tip line at (734) 794-6939.
