3 home invasions through windows reported Thursday in Ann Arbor
Ann Arbor police said three home invasions, two on the same block, were reported Thursday, with the intruders gaining access through windows at each home.
Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said two residences in the 500 block of North Main Street and a home in the 2900 block of Whittier Court were all victimized by break-ins. All three crimes were reported on Thursday, she said.
The first incident occurred overnight and was reported at 8:10 a.m. Thursday. A 29-year-old Ann Arbor man said he went to bed at 12:30 a.m. and woke up to find a ground-level window was open.
The screen had been cut out of the window and the man’s car keys were stolen. Soon, he discovered his silver 2007 Toyota Rav 4 had been stolen as well.
The Rav 4 has a small dent in a rear trunk door and has a license plate of CJK4317, Bush said.
The second reported home invasion took place between 11:30 p.m. Wednesday and 12:30 a.m. Thursday in the 500 block of North Main Street. The 32-year-old Ann Arbor man who lives in the apartment said he was sitting in his living room listening to his headphones when he noticed a hand reaching through a living room window.
The man shouted out and the hand disappeared. No suspect could be seen and the man reported the incident later that day to Ann Arbor police. Between $75 and $100 in damage was done to the window screen, which had been bent in order for the hand to reach through the open window.
The final incident occurred between 11:30 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. Thursday in the 2900 block of Whittier Court. Bush said the two residents of the home returned and the 27-year-old woman noticed doors were open and a window was broken.
Assorted coins were reported stolen from the house, which had been accessed through a window. Bush said the latch on the window was broken and the window was then forced open.
The coins were the only items reported stolen from the home and there is no suspect description available, Bush said.
