The second of two men charged with murdering William Kenney during a 2006 beating in Scio Township will return to court in August for a preliminary examination and could face two additional charges.

Jonathon Aiden, 32, faces charges of open murder, safebreaking and breaking and entering a building with intent to commit a crime. He appeared at the Washtenaw County 14A-1 District Court shortly Tuesday morning to waive his right to have a preliminary exam within 14 days of being arraigned.

Washtenaw County Assistant Prosecutor Dianna Collins indicated Tuesday that she will try to send Aiden’s case to the Washtenaw County Trial Court with a total of five charges, with conspiracy to commit breaking and entering with intent to commit a crime and conspiracy to commit safebreaking to be added.

The hearing will be held at 1 p.m. Aug. 21. Aiden is represented by Steven Tramontin, who confirmed in court that the adjournment will allow him to review discovery materials recently received from the prosecution.

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office deputies allege Aiden and Shane Roscoe beat Kenney to death during a break-in at Jim Bradley Pontiac GMC in Scio Township in August 2006. According to deputies, Kenney was beaten and run over by a vehicle during a robbery at the dealership.

Aiden was extradited to Michigan to face the charges last week from Florida, where he was serving time on burglary charges.

Roscoe was sentenced to life in prison without the opportunity for parole for his role in Kenney’s death.

Seven or eight witnesses will be called at the preliminary exam, Collins said.
