Police arrest 2 teenagers accused of breaking into Ann Arbor home

Two teenagers are being held at the Washtenaw County Jail after being arrested on suspicion of breaking into a home in Ann Arbor Tuesday morning.

Detective Lt. Robert Pfannes said an 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy, both from Ypsilanti, were arrested after they were accused of breaking into a home at 9 a.m. Tuesday in the 2200 block of Shadowood Drive. Pfannes said detectives were in the area working on a separate case when they heard the dispatch for the home invasion in progress.

A resident called police after hearing the pair in her basement, Pfannes said. Patrol officers were closing off the area when the arrests were made.

The homeowner is compiling a list of stolen items and the two were being held on outstanding warrants from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.

“The investigation is in its infancy, but it appears they are brand new to Ann Arbor,” Pfannes said.

The 18-year-old man is being held on a narcotics warrant and the 16-year-old boy is being held on a domestic violence charge. Police are still investigating, Pfannes said.

Police did not release the suspects’ names because they had not been formally arraigned on any charges as of Tuesday afternoon.
