The victim, a 46-year-old Ypsilanti man, suffered a bloody lip and a swollen mouth, according to police, but declined to be taken to the hospital.

A 21-year-old man and a 20-year-old man, both of Ypsilanti Township, were apprehended soon after the alleged assault by deputies from the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office and officers from the Ypsilanti Police Department, who pulled the two men over in a vehicle, police said.

Officers were first called to the residence at 10:20 p.m. after receiving a report of an armed robbery. A preliminary investigation revealed that it was not an armed robbery, but rather an aggravated assault. The three men were acquainted, police said.

The two men used the same handgun to threaten the man, police said. Officers recovered the small caliber handgun.

The motivation for the fight was not immediately released. Police continue to investigate,

The 20-year-old and 21-year-old are being held in the Washtenaw County Jail awaiting arraignment on charges of aggravated assault, felon in possession of a firearm and carrying a concealed weapon, police said.

Maybe if the YPD or even the Sherriff's Department started to go through the leases of the people in Riverside and some of the other apartment "project" buildings and worked with the management of these '"SECTION 8" complexes a lot of these issues wouldn't be happening. I know of one guy that is on probation but makes his way to the liquor store everyday without a problem. How about having a cop just stand outside of the Lucky Two Liquor store and start running people for probation or parole violations for purchasing liquor. A good police presence is usually the best deterrent. Please all of you Civil Rights people please tell me that if is was your Mom or Grandmother getting mugged or harassed every day you would object!!!!!

Wouldn't it be wise for the YPD to just open up a satellite police station in the block. There are plenty of blighted houses on South St. they could use. How about patrolling the area from Grove to the liquor store on Michigan Ave. I lived in the building on Grove across from South and it was an everyday thing to be approached for money and if I wanted to buy drugs. This stretch of Grove has become the new West Willow!!!!! Come on YPD and start putting a few undercovers there and see what happens. I know money is tight but if it saves one life isn't it worth it???????

Wow a felon who has a hand gun. Please bring FEDERAL charges and exile him to the the Federal prison of his choice more than 300 miles from place of conviction. Give it a try, I bet it will have a positive impact.

"felon in possession of a firearm." Doesn't annarbor.com have editors to proofread stories and fact-check them? Silly people, felons aren't permitted to possess firearms.

but but but there are laws against that! Clearly another law about breaking laws is needed. Preferably one targeted to the wrong demographic....

This happened on the same block where that one guy gunned the other guy down in the middle of the street last October. At least no one was shot this time but yet again a gun is involved.
