2 Ann Arbor apartments broken into while residents away for break
Ann Arbor police are investigating two home invasions near Angell Elementary School that were reported over the weekend and occurred while the residents were away for winter break.
Ann Arbor police Lt. Renee Bush said apartments in the 900 block of Baldwin Avenue and the 800 block of Walnut Street were reported broken into sometime during the last two and a half weeks.
Bush said the home in the 900 block of Baldwin had its door kicked in sometime between Dec. 22 and 11:48 p.m. Sunday. The 21-year-old Ann Arbor man who lived at the apartment returned late Sunday and discovered the break-in.
A Seiko watch and cash were stolen from the apartment, Bush said.
A short time later, a 21-year-old Ann Arbor man and his roommate returned to their apartment in the 900 block of Walnut Street and reported it was broken into. The two men reported the break-in occurred between 10 p.m. Dec. 21 and their return at 12:30 a.m. Monday, Bush said.
There was evidence of forced entry and a laptop was reported stolen from the apartment.
Bush said there was no suspect description available for either of the home invasions.

Guess these folks need to take their computers and other valuables when gone for a length of time. I know you should not have to but necessary in these times.

Student neighborhood, gone for school break = target for break-in. Not much you can do if you are renting and a standard door is kicked in. Get the landlord to install a better door and better frame, but the windows are still vulnerable entry points. Install an alarm system hooked up to windows and doors, or to a motion sensor, that makes a very loud noise to scare them off. More and more of this happening these days.
