16-year-old boy charged in summer homicide in Ypsilanti Township enters plea deal
An Ypsilanti Township teenager pleaded guilty to reduced charges in the shooting death of a 20-year-old man along Golfside Road last summer.
Charles Pippins, 16, pleaded guilty to an added count of being an accessory after the fact for the July 25 slaying of Chris King, records show.
Pippins and his half-brother, Michael Crockett, were both charged with murder and robbery for the daytime shooting in the Kmart parking lot in Ypsilanti Township. Crockett, 20, is scheduled to stand trial March 21.
Pippins is expected to testify at the trial and faces sentencing on March 30, records show. No sentencing agreement is in place, and Pippins’ attorney has asked Circuit Judge Archie Brown to sentence him as a juvenile. Brown granted Pippins a personal bond.
Tina Crockett, the mother of Crockett and Pippins, also awaits sentencing for being an accessory after she admitted to driving them around the county on the day of the shooting to avoid police.
David Reynolds, also charged with being an accessory, recently adjourned a pre-trial hearing and was told to return to court for his scheduled trial date on March 21.

The odds of being born and then surviving to adulthood are better then they once were, but to end up wasting it all is beyond sad, it's pathetic.

Why do we want to blame video games, TV shows and movies for the actions of some kids? Could it be that maybe they don't get the discipline they should when they are bad? "Time Out" is a croc...it doesn't teach them anything. Maybe they are not getting enough attention at home? Or maybe if parents didn't use the TV, video games and movies as a babysitter children wouldn't be the way they are? Listen to your kids, know who they are hanging out with, spend time with them, show them how to be better people.

Maybe if they had seen what guns and things really do to living things instead of cartoons showing them getting shot, blown up and crashes then walking away from it, they would understand it better. While they were still young.

Gee......I wonder where our children get these ideas that they can just kill anyone they don't like.............Could it be the Rap music they listen to? Could it be the violent video games they play? Could it be all the violence they see on TV, even in cartoons? Or...is it just a coincidence?

I'd say it's all of the above and bad parenting. In this case the mother is an accomplice. Sad indeed.

Was Michael the alleged shooter? If so I don't have a huge problem with his younger brother receiving a plea deal as long as there is some form of punishment. The shooter had better not get a deal though and get locked up for a very long time. Ms. Crockett probably just did what any mother would have done before thinking things through. I'm sure she panicked and it was a gut reaction. She eventually turned them over to police, right?

It's almost impossible to imagine isn't it? As a mother, we spend our life wanting the best for our children. I am just sitting here shaking my head.
