Judge rules Sylvan Township millage recount can move forward

A judge ruled Wednesday that the Sylvan Township water and sewer debt millage recount will happen, the Chelsea Standard reported.

Circuit Court Judge Archie Brown ruled Wednesday that the recount would move forward within 21 days. The Washtenaw County director of elections told the Standard he was confident the recount could be completed next week.
The tax would raise funds over a 20-year period to pay the county back about $13 million Sylvan Township owes in back taxes and for payments absorbed by the county after the township defaulted on a loan for a water and sewer development project.

It's possible that some were judged by the scanner to be "unmarked" in the first count.

If it passes, the citizens will pay back the money at about ...is it 4 mils? If it fails they will pay it back at 9. As upset as everybody is at this fiasco (granting a developer everything they want then paying them to leave) I think it would be better to just take the medicine now. What happens if a new developer moves into the area and finishes the development? Will the taxpayers get refunds when the tapping fees are paid?
