Editor's note: This article has been updated with information from Michigan State Police.

A rollover crash on Old U.S. 12 near Chelsea killed the driver early Monday morning, Michigan State Police said.

The vehicle rolled over and ejected the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene, said Joyce Williams, spokeswoman for Huron Valley Ambulance.

The driver was a man, but police could not confirm his age. He is believed to be from the Dexter area, said Michigan State Police Sgt. Chris Pascoe. It's not clear why he ran off the road.

The crash occurred shortly after 4 a.m. on Old U.S. 12 east of Freer Road in Lima Township. Michigan State Police troopers were still at the scene at 7:30 a.m. Monday and had closed the road for their investigation.

Huron Valley Ambulance paramedics were transporting another patient under-non-emergency conditions when they came upon the crash scene, Williams said. They stopped to check on the crash and called for more responders.

Further information was not immediately available.
