Chelsea school board appoints Scott Broshar as new member

By Lisa Carolin

The Chelsea school board Monday night appointed Scott Broshar to fill a vacancy on the board created by Rob Turner's election to the Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners.

Broshar served on the school board from 1996-2004 and was board president for five years.

Ten people applied to fill the board seat, which became vacant Jan. 1. Board member Laurel McDevitt called the response "a pleasant surprise."

Board member Anne Mann nominated Broshar because she said he is the only applicant with school board experience.

Broshar was approved by a vote of 5-0. (Steve Olsen was absent.) Broshar will serve on the school board through June 30.

"He just wants to help and fill in until the election in May," said Mann. "Let the other nine people run for the two- and four-year terms in May, and let the community decide."

Feb. 9 is the filing deadline for the May election of two-year and four-year school board positions that will open in July.
