Chelsea Police Department

A surveillance video released late Friday shows the suspect entering the store in the 500 block of South Main Street.

The video appears to have been taken moments before the man demanded cash from both the clerk and a customer at about 3 p.m. Friday.

Police said the man knocked the clerk to the floor during the incident, and the clerk was treated at Chelsea Community Hospital later on Friday.

The suspect escaped with cash and ran southwest from the store, police said. A burgundy car was then spotted speeding toward the south - and I-94 - and police are investigating whether it's related.

The suspect is described as a black man in his early 30s who is about 5-foot, 7-inches tall to about 5-foot, 10-inches tall and with a medium to muscular build. He wore a dark hoodie, dark pants and running shoes.

A $1,000 reward has been offered by Crimestoppers for anyone with information that leads to an arrest.

Anyone with information should contact the Chelsea Police Department at 734-475-9122 or if they wish to remain anonymous contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-Speak Up.

Some Domino's Pizza stores had a double door entry with a space between. It was possible for store people to lock both doors as the holdup guy exited, trapping him in the bulletproof area until the police arrived. they also had height markers on the door so some accurate idea of the person's size could be noted But there is a need for better cameras for all locations.

Good to see the photos are getting so much better! I see a definite entrepreneurial opportunity.

Picture not as clear as I had hoped. If there are enter and exit doors, I would lock the exit door. Then have a door man...at the enter door....lock the door real quick when a thug like this tries to enter. Good customers will wait to a minute to enter.

well in this "still" he certainly isn't hiding anything behind his back, both hands are in front...perhaps the other poster was correct, the video being posted would be "clearer"?

The story was just updated to clarify that.

@Chris 8 - "That type of outerwear being worn in the weather we have been having recently would set off alarm bells in anyones head." Friday afternoon was dark, cool, if not cold & blustery. The prior 'recent' weather is irrelevant. Wearing a oversized hood, inside, is certainly suspicious but as the other poster said, at that point, it's rather moot. I have an idea... Since it was actually a "VIDEO" that was "RELEASED"... according to this story... Post the video rather than a all but useless grainy picture.

I agree the weather was somewhat cool, and windy but the temperature that day would not drive "most" people to pull out the winter gear along with gloves. Inside, just about every convenience store, the lighting is bright and the temps are comfy enough to remove a face covering hood. My point was I would have been watching this persons every move and would have been in a state of alert for a problem. It is moot only because the robbery is done. I still to this day do not understand myself why the police insist on releasing grainy photos of perps continously. I would not be able to identify that person if they were my best friend. Look at the picture closely. The top portion tells me it's a male suspect but from the waist down it looks like a female suspect. Quite confusing indeed.

Wow, with a photo as crystal-clear as that one is, they'll catch this guy in no time. Good luck to the police. I have the feeling they have their work cut out for them, in this case.

That's a terrible picture of the perp. He must have changed clothes real quickly to become unnoticed. That type of outerwear being worn in the weather we have been having recently would set off alarm bells in anyones head. The way its being worn especially indoors just looks suspicious. As a store owner or even a store clerk (something I do part time) I would have someone remove anything covering their face upon entering the store. That includes hoodies. in the summer no shoes no shirts no service, in the winter, hats off or deals off. It is my right to request this .

If someone enters your store with a gun to rob you, I don't think asking him to remove his hoodie is going to be productive.
