“I want to express my sincere gratitude to all the council members, mayor, city manager, City of Chelsea employees and citizens for their support over the years,” the resignation letter states. “I truly respect the vast knowledge that is generated within the city offices and am very proud to have had the opportunity to serve on council for the 4.5 years.”

A new work schedule and a change of residence outside the city were the reasons for his resignation.

The resignation letter was dated April 18 and sent to City Clerk Terri Royal, who distributed it to the City Council.

Holmberg filed to run for City Council last year, but purposely did not campaign for re-election, but Chelsea voters chose to return him to office.

Tuesday will be his last meeting, and it's expected that City Council will soon discuss how they plan to fill the vacancy.
