A hood or hat and scarf will be necessary equipment for facing the winds today.

Better bundle up today if you're going out. Bone-chilling winds will make it feel colder today and Thursday than the thermometer says, but relief is on the way. Sunday is expected to bring the first temperatures above freezing in more than three weeks.

At 7 a.m., the temperature in Ann Arbor was 5 degrees, but with the wind-chill factor, it felt more like 8 degrees below zero. The high is expected to be 21 degrees today. Tonight temperatures will drop to 3 degrees below zero, the National Weather Service said.

Thursday, expect it to be worse. The high will be 14 degrees, but wind-chill values are expected to be as low as 13 degrees below zero.

If you're wondering about the possibility of snow, there's a 30 percent chance of that Friday and Friday night. The high Friday is expected to be 23.

The weekend could bring a snowmelt, with a high of 27 on Saturday and Sunday, when the thermometer is expected to climb to 38. The last time the mercury was above freezing in the Ann Arbor area was Jan. 18, when the high was 36 degrees, said Matt Mosteiko, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in White Lake Township.

You know when you see you a migrating Robin, they looked downright pissed when trying to penetrate the earth for one of its bountiful worms.

A large flock of Robins stays all winter. Earlier they were in the deep woods. You may have seen a flock of large birds overhead in December, that was them. They are now in the neighborhoods taking advantage of a late food source, winter berries. I'm still waiting for the Waxwing flock to hit the berry bush in my back yard. The Robins were here a couple of days ago.

I'm interestedin Amazon Warrior's comment. We saw a huge flock of robins, too, in the vicinity of the Polo Fields Country Club. We saw them about a week ago. Robins! Really? What's going on?

When you need a weather statistic, it's quite OK to just go to a fine locally-based website like wunderground.com. It's OK! No need to bug a meteorologist for a quote. It's OK! Really! You won't get sent to your room!

I cycled the 5miles to work today, no trouble. A bit nippy, but otherwise quite pleasant.
