Beam deterioration causes 3 bridges to close in Lima, Sharon townships

By Erica Hobbs

Starting Wednesday, three bridges over Mill Creek in Lima and Sharon townships will be closed indefinitely due to beam failure in the structures.

The Washtenaw County Road Commission said the Lima Center Road Bridge, the Liberty Road Bridge and the Waldo Road Bridge have to be closed after annual bridge inspections ruled the structures too deteriorated to remain open.

The Lima Center Road Bridge is located between Scio Church and Jerusalem roads in sections 33 and 34 of Lima Township, the Liberty Road Bridge is located between Guenther and Dancer roads in sections 27 and 34 of Lima Township and the Waldo Road Bridge is located between M-52 and Peckins Road in section 1 of Sharon Township.

Detours for the bridges are as follows:

  • Lima Center Road Bridge: Scio Church Road to Guenther Road to Jerusalem Road
  • Liberty Road Bridge: Guenther Road to Scio Church Road to Steinbach Road
  • Waldo Road Bridge: M-52 to Scio Church Road to Peckins Road

Road Commission officials say they don't know when the bridges will be replaced, but said they're assessing any and all funding options to replace them as soon as possible.

An embedded map of the location of these three bridges would be useful.
