By AnnArbor.com Staff

Voters in Augusta Township on Tuesday approved a millage for fire protection and selected Democrat Susan Burek to face off against Republican Brian Shelby in the fall for a seat on the township's Board of Trustees.

Voters were asked to approve a 2-mill tax levy to fund fire services in the township for five years. The millage is expected to raise $417,696 in its first year, and was passed with 722 votes approving the levy and 496 votes against it.

In the race for a partial-term seat on the Augusta Township Board of Trustees, Susan Burek won the Democratic nomination with 40.4 percent of the vote over Kathleen Jackson, 32 percent, and Judy Thornton, 27.1 percent.

Brian Shelby won the Republican nod, running unopposed in the primary with 99 percent of the vote.
