Augusta Township primary election winners upheld after recount

By Amy Biolchini

A recount Tuesday of ballots cast in Augusta Township for Democratic candidates for the positions of clerk, treasurer and trustee on the township board revealed no change in the outcome of the primary election.

The Washtenaw County Board of Canvassers met Tuesday to recount six races and ballot issues from the August primary election.

The Democratic candidates in Augusta Township for clerk, treasurer and a trustee that lost their races each requested for a recount to be tabulated.

The individual that requests a recount must pay $10 per precinct that they would like to have counted again. In Augusta Township, there are three precincts.

Only one of the precincts was eligible to be recounted, as the zippered containers holding the ballots for the other two precincts were not sealed correctly - a similar problem experienced by Sylvan Township precincts.

For those two precincts, the original vote stands as the final count for the record.

On the November ballot in Augusta Township, Kathy Giszczak will be the Democratic candidate for the clerk’s office, Judy Thornton will be the Democratic candidate for a seat on the Board of Trustees and Lynda H. Dew will be the Democratic candidate for the treasurer.

I look at list of candidates that anyone wanting change or sanity will have to support. I am a rigid Democrat, but will have to vote almost all Republicans (oh such pain) . The Democrat officers have all been there before & don't we just love the job they have done.. As my dughter said "they have DONE us in" there are some Democratic trustee candidates to consider, Mr Keefe & ms Thornton. Othewise it is unfortunately all Republicans for everyone I know.

Glad to see Mr. Keefe still in race. we need ALL new people in office. We were told about a group called NEW BROOM that intends to sweep everyone out and new "clean: people into office.. Where do we contact them? We are not voting for anyone who has held that office before.
