Another scorcher Saturday, but relief arrives Sunday
Relief from the heat is on the way—if we can get through Saturday.
Weather Underground predicts a high temperature of 104 degrees today, with a 40 percent chance of rain or thunderstorms. The "heat index"—how it will feel, including the humidity—is forecast for 111. Weather.com predicts today's high to be 98, with a 30 percent chance of rain.
The National Weather Service has issued an excessive heat warning in effect until 8 p.m. today. NWS advises, "Take extra precautions... if you work or spend time outside. When possible... reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. Wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
"To reduce risk during outdoor work... the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency - call 911."
The average high for this date is 83; the record is 101, set in 1988.
Rain is likely (60 percent chance) overnight, with a low temperature of 64, according to Weather Underground. Weather.com has the overnight rain chance at 30 percent.
The heat is expected to break on Sunday, with a forecast high of 84. Highs in the 80s are expected for the next several days, with lows dipping into the 50s starting Sunday night.

I wore a parka yesterday and today. Warm weather is great! Everyone complains about winter, and then when a wittle bit of melty swealty sets in, the Gore-ettes rejoice. Too sad.

And the Conservatives, read Republicans, doubt the existence of Global Warming. Amazing.

Weather is not climate. Most of Europe, the western US, Alaska, etc. is having a cool summer. The heat is being caused by a recurring blocking high or ridge over the midwest. There is nothing "global" about it.

Come on Sparty, global warming or climate change are only an issue when there is a republican in the white house. You would thikg the weather gods would know that.

Sorry, Sparty, but that's a silly comment. Conservatives may or may not have opinions on global warming. Those who do typically don't doubt that global temperatures may be on the rise in many regions--that's a matter of fact, not opinion--but they may question whether the elevation is anthropogenic. That's a different, and genuinely not altogether settled, question. Can we all just set aside the partisan comments for a while and (pun intended) chill out a little?

Wow! 84 is considered a break from the heat! I guess it's all relative. Unfortunately, it's back up over 90 again starting Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday and beyond. No end in sight, according to weather underground. From the website: Our Amazing Planet: "Unfortunately, the heat doesn't look likely to dissipate soon, with the National Weather Service expecting warmer-than-usual temperatures to continue for the remainder of the summer across much of the country."

Weather Underground's "BestForecast" is generally poor in quality for our area (note that the site itself describes its forecast quality in that way if you look beneath the forecast!) - don't bother with it.

I think it's rather sad that being in the upper 80s is a relief! And then the next day it just goes back up. Will it ever END?!
