A former computer company executive who was a relative unknown less than two years ago is set to become Michigan's next governor.

Rick Snyder is scheduled to take the oath of office and become the state's 48th governor at noon Saturday.

The inauguration ceremony will be held outside the state Capitol.

The Republican takes over for Democrat Jennifer Granholm. She's leaving office after eight years because of Michigan's term limits law.

Snyder is a former Gateway computer executive and venture capitalist who had never run for public office before winning the governor's race.

He beat Democrat Virg Bernero in the November election.

Snyder is expected to talk about teamwork and his plans to what he calls "reinvent" Michigan during his inaugural speech.

Many other Michigan officials elected to statewide offices will be sworn in soon after Snyder at noon Saturday.

Brian Calley will be sworn in as lieutenant governor. Ruth Johnson will be sworn in as secretary of state and Bill Schuette will become attorney general. All are Republicans and new to their jobs.

Schuette will host a breakfast at Lansing's Radisson Hotel before the Saturday ceremonies. Johnson will host a reception at the Michigan Library and Historical Center after the swearing-in ceremonies.

New or re-elected Supreme Court justices and university governing board members also are among those who will take the oath of office Saturday.

Sadly, Michigan might actually be better off, during the next two years at least, if Snyder really were becoming a temporary dictator. Our just-elected state legislature promises to be among the loonier in the nation. Wingnuts, dittoheads, and their fellow travelers now have the opportunity to play majority lawmakers.

The guy was elected Governor, not Dictator. He has no authority to "invoke a statewide repeal" of state laws.

Also as your first act this afternoon please invoke a statewide repeal Michigan's Blue Laws so we can celebrate with mimosas at the Gandy Dancer brunch tomorrow AM http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blue_law#Michigan These laws are archaic and Michigan looses tax revenue from them

Good. I know he'll make the most out of the time, resources and opportunity he has available. The "sense of urgency" message he has tells it all.
