Cups litter Greenwood Avenue hours after an annual block party.

Ann Arbor police arrested a man this week suspected of stabbing two people after a neighborhood block party in April on Greenwood Avenue.

Detective David Monroe said Michael Crist, 25, was arraigned Tuesday on two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon and two counts of assault and battery.

The arrest resulted from a tip received by police. Monroe said Crist later turned himself in.

The stabbing occurred around 1:30 a.m. April 23 following an annual block party in the 900 block of Greenwood Avenue, just south of the University of Michigan Central Campus.

Police said two men were slashed on their neck and arms with a sharp object during an altercation with another group of men.

Both victims were 20 years old and were not students, police said. One was admitted to the University of Michigan Hospital and the other, treated and released.

Monroe said Crist was at the block party before the assault occurred, but police do not believe Crist knew the victims.

“He had consumed alcohol, but to what degree that played a role, I don’t know,” Monroe said.

He said police are not pursuing any other suspects in that attack. A preliminary examination in Crist's case is scheduled for July 13.

This week’s arrest comes after other assaults near Greenwood Avenue in which police have not made arrests. Crist is not being pursued as a suspect in those incidents, Monroe said.

On June 18, a 19-year-old California man was beaten and robbed around 1:45 a.m. by about 10 people on Greenwood. The man had little recollection of the attack and suffered from pain and cuts on his head.

Minutes earlier, at 1:41 a.m., a 24-year-old Romulus man and two Belleville men, ages 17 and 20, were punched and kicked by several men on nearby Michigan Avenue. The Romulus man told police a handgun was pointed at him and he was struck by a bat. The three were transported to a local hospital for treatment of cuts on their faces and arms, but nothing was taken from them, police said.

Several Greenwood residents shared their concerns with the assaults earlier this month.

In another nearby incident, a man was stabbed multiple times around 1:25 a.m. April 10 in the 600 block of Monroe Street just west of South State Street. Monroe said police still are searching for the suspect, who is described as a white male, 19-20 years old, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches, with a medium build and short hair.

Police were told the suspect left the scene in a black Ford Fusion.

Monroe said just as a tip led police to an arrest in the Greenwood stabbing, police hope a witness may come forward with valuable information in the other cases.

Anyone with information can contact Monroe at (734)794-6930 ext. 49308, call the police department’s anonymous tip line at (734) 794-6939 or email TIPS@a2gov.org.

"Cups litter Greenwood Avenue hours after an annual block party." Looks like all hell broke out there. I count two blue and one red cup. Maybe there is another blue one in the background. Can't be sure.
