Ann Arbor area under severe thunderstorm watch

By Cindy Heflin

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm watch for Washtenaw County and much of southeast Michigan until 5 a.m. Thursday.

There’s a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms overnight, the weather service said, mainly after 1 p.m.

Thursday will bring a much greater chance of rain. The weather service says showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly after 1 p.m. The chance of rain is 70 percent Thursday. The expected high is 91.

The threat of rain prompted Bank of Ann Arbor to move its popular lunchtime summer concert series Sonic Lunch concert to the Michigan Theater Thursday. A big crowd is expected for hometown singer-songwriter Mayer Hawthorne.
