Accidents stall traffic on both sides of I-94
Updated at 9:30 a.m. with information from the Ypsilanti Fire Department.
There were two accidents on both sides of Interstate 94 near West Michigan Avenue slowing traffic Tuesday morning, officials said.
Emergency crews were at accidents on eastbound I-94 east of Huron Street and westbound I-94 east of U.S. 23, according to Washtenaw County dispatch.
A call reporting a five car accident on eastbound I-94 east of Huron Street came in to the Ypsilanti Fire Department at 7:53 a.m.
There were no injuries reported at that accident, said Joyce Williams with Huron Valley Ambulance.
Traffic was redirected until Stadium Towing arrived and was able to clear the roadway.
Police are investigating the cause of the accident.
A second accident was reported on the westbound lanes at 8:20 a.m., officials said.
The Pittsfield Township Fire Department responded to the three-car accident on westbound I-94 east of U.S. 23.
A car was stopped because of normal morning traffic when it was rear-ended, said Fire Chief Sean Gleason, then another car then rear-ended the middle vehicle.
The fire department used the Jaws of Life to remove the driver of the middle vehicle, Gleason said. The driver was in serious, but stable condition and was taken to the hospital.
Williams said one other person was taken to the hospital in stable condition from that accident.

The wreck on westbound I-94 around exit 180 looked devastating -- thankfully it sounds like there was no one in the backseat. My heart goes out to the injured driver.
