3 U-M students tell police about sexual assaults during parties in same Ann Arbor apartment
University of Michigan police warned students late Wednesday that three reports of sexual assaults in an off-campus apartment are being investigated.
The students each told police they were sexually assaulted by the same suspect during parties in his apartment. The assaults took place in September and Feb. 15.
All incidents followed the victims being given alcohol, according to a crime alert published by U-M. In two cases, the victims reported passing out then waking up during the assault.
"A third student reported she had been inappropriately grabbed by the suspect," according to the crime alert.
One victim reported an incident to Ann Arbor police on Wednesday. The location is Zaragon Place Apartments on East University south of South University, making it the jurisdiction of city police.
The suspect is described as an Asian male, 31 years old (but looks younger), 5'6"-5'7", 140 pounds, short black hair, brown eyes.
These reports follow earlier sexual assault reports involving students that include an attack at West Quad and three students who described sexual assaults by taxi drivers.
Anyone with information is asked to call U-M police at (734) 763-1131 or AAPD's tip line at (734) 794-6939 or tips@a2gov.org.

This info came from AAPD this morning: As of yesterday evening, the suspect has been positively identified and interviewed by Ann Arbor Police Detectives. Detectives are continuing to investigate.

I think the question is better phrased as "why would a 31 year old want to live in Zaragon Place?" Of course legally they can, but it is filled with undergrads.

Zaragon Place is a privately owned apartment building not a dormitory. Anyone can live there.

Too many sexual assaults lately. Too many. Where is the respect to women? Where is the dignity of man?

Did they ever catch this guy? He was on a rampage in September and he fits the physical description: http://www.annarbor.com/news/crime/student-reports-incident-that-may-be-linked-to-earlier-sexual-assault-at-u-m/

The Michigan Daily is reporting that the September incidents weren't reported to AAPD at the time. http://www.michigandaily.com/news/three-students-report-sexual-assault-zaragon-east-apartment John Counts will be following this story this morning.

Kinda figured this info might be from a recent investigation (not speculating on which one). Still, since this is AAPD territory as was the taxi incident, why is the first news source the UM and not the AAPD? Is the UM vetting all student reported crime before contacting AAPD?

Umm. September? AAPD jurisdiction? A fixed address Zaragon apartment complete with Asian suspect? Okay. Reason why the news/public didn't learn of this through AAPD back in September?

Maybe the incidents were just reported. Happens all the time. One person finds out it happened to someone else, then decides to report what happened to her previously....maybe something similar...
