2 men taken to St. Joe's after rollover crash Friday on Napier Road

By Kyle Feldscher

Two men were taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Superior Township after a rollover crash on a dirt road in the outskirts of Canton Township Friday, according to a report in the Observer & Eccentric.

According to the report, a 23-year-old Canton man and a 25-year-old Plymouth man were in a 2002 Honda CR-V when it rolled over on Napier Road north of Warren Road along the Washtenaw County line.

Police told the newspaper that alcohol and excessive speed caused the crash.

Both men were taken to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital to be treated for their injuries, but their conditions weren’t known Monday, according to the report.

There will be stories from other areas that we decide should be part of our coverage, often through aggregation. One example is the shooting in Dundee, which we reported yesterday; others come from South Lyon or Livingston County communities, or even Jackson. There is some fluidity across 'borders' (like school districts) and times when a story from, say, Hamburg Township might feel close to home for our readers. This accident took place on the Wayne County side of the road that separates it from Washtenaw County. Our sheriff's department was among the first responders, who had to determine jurisdiction. Given that, it seemed likely that people in our community may have wondered what happened that night. I know I did; we didn't get police info on it over the weekend, but I heard multiple reports on it on WWJ on Saturday.

I agree, NSider. I can't say we'd have dropped everything to report this, but with the information available, it didn't seem to hurt anything to provide the link to the Observer's story.

Its still not a "Man bites dog" story. There once were many small newspapers that had a column "Fire and Ambulance Runs" so that folks could see what the sirens were about. I think this story fits that category.

Two Wayne County residents have an accident in Wayne County. How does that qualify as news for Ann Arbor readers? Why not cover Oakland, Monroe, Jackson and Livingston County car crashes? Car crashes happen all the time. We are Ann Arbor readers. This non-story qualifies as email Spam. A complete waste of digitalization and strain on my eyeballs. Hey reader dudes! Do any of yins Agree with me? If so, then let's let aa.com know!

Piney - This crash literally happened on the county line. It was approximately 10 feet or so outside of Washtenaw County and Washtenaw County police and fire services were initially called to the scene before being called off by Canton Township. I'm sure residents of Superior Township were wondering why they heard sirens and saw ambulances in their area Friday night. I'm sorry if you think this qualifies as "spam" but other readers surely found this helpful.

Two guys in Canton have a vehicle accident caused by alcohol and excessive speed. I think the AA.com editor should be screaming "That's NOT news... show me an accident with 2 sober guys in Canton, driving the speed limit, THAT'S NEWS!"

Napier Road is on the county line bordering Superior Township. Some readers actually live outside the freeway ring.

No kidding. I am from South Lyon originally, and based on the A2 reporting, you would think nothing existed north of eight mile and east of dixboro.
