Dancing in the streets: Free dance festival in downtown Ann Arbor, Sept. 6, 2009
Dancing in the Streets is an annual free dance festival held on Labor Day weekend in downtown Ann Arbor, sponsored by the Ann Arbor Committee for Traditional Music and Dance. This year's event is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 6, 2009, from 1:45 - 6:30 p.m. at Main and Washington Streets.
The program schedule lists performers including the Dodworth Saxhorn Band, an Ann Arbor ensemble which uses antique brass-valved horns and drums built between 1840 and 1880; the Michigan Argentine Tango Club; and the II-V-I Orchestra, which plays jazz and swing. There will also be acts providing contra, Cajun, Charleston, and more.
The Ann Arbor Council for Traditional Music and Dance (AACTMAD) is a nonprofit foundation based in Ann Arbor; it sponsors more than 200 dance events per year. For more information about this event see the event home page. Volunteer opportunities are available.
