After 17 rehearsals and 5,000 parent volunteer hours of work, the Tappan Players pulled off energetic performances this weekend of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
A cast and crew of 150 students from Tappan Middle School performed the play — originally penned by Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice — in front of a crowd of more than 700 people on Friday and Saturday nights. The final show is set for this afternoon.
The Tappan Players' performances this weekend marked the 20th anniversary of the group's annual production. This year's play was produced by Sarah Rampton and Wendy Correll. Casting and rehearsals began in mid-February.
"It went great — really high energy," Correll said of Friday night's performance. "I think the kids were surprised at themselves. It's been a long last two weeks."
Proceeds from the show are used to purchase supplies for Tappan's arts and music departments.

Ours did a bit part in last years play. Talk about energy. The parents felt like it was finals week. We were tired but pumped. Wish we could have seen the play this year. Too busy this weekend. Glad to hear they had a great time.

Caught the show last night - what energy and enthusiasm! The Tappan Players can be very proud of their effort. Just as impressive as the production itself is the fact that so many Tappan students (nearly a third of the entire school) participated in one way or another.
