North Burns Park Association meeting notes for Oct. 21, 2009
The North Burns Park Association met on Wednesday for its fall meeting at the Friends Center at 1420 Hill St. Approximately 25 neighbors were in attendance, including Mayor John Hieftje, Third Ward council member Christopher Taylor, and Third Ward candidate Stephen Kunselman, winner of the August Democratic primary over Leigh Greden.
Neighbors discussed enforcement of city ordinances regarding noise and trash pickup, plans for the Burns Park Senior Center, neighborhood crime, zoning for neighborhoods near downtown, budget issues affecting the city, and the status of infrastructure improvements including the East Stadium Bridges.
The rezoning of South University properties in the A2D2 process drew extended comments from those assembled, with concerns about height limitations and development plans prompting parcel by parcel consideration of development plans and ownership of properties near the old Bagel Factory site. Concerns expressed by Peter Nagourney at the Oct. 5 City Council meeting regarding whether the A2D2 guidelines would be mandatory or voluntary were thoughtfully discussed by those in the room.
Light refreshments including chocolate chip cookies were served.
