Weather perfect for annual Children's Wet Meadow Burn at Buhr Park
By Melanie Maxwell
Six-year-old Tobin Cooney laughs as he hangs backwards off his father's shoulders while at Buhr Park on Thursday evening.

The annual event includes native plant seed collection, an explanation of the purpose of controlled burns and then an actual burn at the park in the wet meadows. After the burn each year, native plant seeds are scattered onto the meadow.
Buhr Park is located at 2751 Packard Road on Ann Arbor's South Side. Click below to see a slideshow of photos from the event:

The burn in Buhr Park is slightly different from other prescribed burns - these wet meadows are isolated in seas of turf grass and are very unlikely to spread past their boundaries. The burn crew at Buhr Park last Thursday took all the same precautions as they would anywhere else, but there was a much smaller risk of fire getting out of hand. The warm and dry conditions on Thursday were ideal for this type of burn, and it ended up being very successful.

Really? The headline should read "Weather NOT Perfect". For the past few days if anyone bothered to look at weather.com or any other weather site, or news or pretty much anywhere else it has been mentioned that burning of any sort was strongly discouraged due to conditions causing a much increased risk of fire spreading.. but hey, what does NOAA know anyway as long as the neighborhood gets to hold their annual burn event.
