'Celebrate Israel' festival at Jewish Community Center draws 500 people

By Mark Bialek

The sixth annual "Celebrate Israel" festival took place on May 2 at the Jewish Community Center in Ann Arbor.

Approximately 500 people, mostly from Washtenaw County, came to enjoy festivities such as Israeli music, food, children's activities, exhibits, folk dancing and the Temple Beth Emeth Choir.

This year's theme was "Innovation Nation," acknowledging Israel's technological contributions to the world and the date of its independence 62 years ago.

very interesting that the usual small gaggle of antisemites who have protested this event in the past ( evidently taking a break from synagogue harassing) did not show up this year... either their bullhorn was on the fritz or they got the message, via the multiple exposes of their malice in the WASHTENAW JEWISH NEWS ( jan, feb, march issues) that they are no longer seen as just quirky local color....a message also reinforced by the food coop which has multiply repudiated their attemps to hijack that organization, the Um student association which has curtailed their participation in community comments....and of course reinforced by the noxious activities of those they heroize ( times square would-be bombers, underpants bombers etc etc ad nauseam)
