With video: Bryant Elementary School students raise $1,500 for Haiti in coin drive
Students at Bryant Elementary School on Ann Arbor's South Side presented the American Red Cross with a check for $1,500 on Thursday following a successful schoolwide coin drive in February.
It's the single largest donation to date from an elementary school in Ann Arbor, said Mary Kumbier, development coordinator for the Red Cross chapter in Washtenaw County. About 320 students attend Bryant.
Bryant teacher Louise Wallner said fellow teachers Jennifer Puente and Roberta Hayward led the coin drive effort. A large jar was kept in the school's main office, and children would drop off their donations daily.
