Michigan sharpshooter Nik Stauskas, just hoopin', declares after 3-pointer 'I'm back!' (with video)
That's 32 percent -- hardly a slump.
But compared to the freshman's torrid nonconference shooting, when he hit at a staggering 56.5-percent clip, it sure felt like one.
Stauskas, though, drilled his first three attempts in the top-ranked Wolverines' 68-46 win Wednesday against Northwestern -- and he appears to be back.
That, at least, is according to Stauskas, who could be seen yelling "I'm back!" after hitting his second 3-pointer. He finished the night 3-of-5 from deep and scored 11 points.
"That's just Nik," Michigan coach John Beilein said after the game. "We'll give him all this stuff, and say 'are you all right?'
"And he'll say, 'Coach, it's just hoops. It's just hoops.' And I said, 'All right, Nik, it's just hoops.' That's how he acts. He's an interesting young man that this team really loves."
Stauskas rolled through the nonconference season, hitting 39-of-69 attempts from deep. He made at least one 3-pointer in every game.
But since the start of Big Ten play, defenses have figured out ways to slow him. Heading to Wednesday's game, he had hit just 12 of his 35 attempts from beyond the arc in Big Ten play (34.2 percent).
He bottomed out in a loss against Ohio State on Jan. 13. He was held scoreless, after reaching double figures against every prior Division I opponent this year, and didn't hit a 3-pointer in three attempts.
Stauskas then was ripped, including on Twitter, for the effort.
But he seems to be rebounding nicely.
According to him, he's back.
