Michigan's Jordan Morgan (ankle) may miss Northwestern game, Mitch McGary or Jon Horford could start
Wolverines junior Jordan Morgan could miss Wednesday's home game against Northwestern (6:30 p.m., Big Ten Network), coach John Beilein said Tuesday, due to an ankle injury suffered Sunday at Illinois.
"I don't expect (him to practice Tuesday)," Beilein said. "Seeing the ankle today, there was a lot of discoloration, so we'll wait and see.
"(If he can't practice he'd be doubtful) for tomorrow. We'll see, I haven't seen him give it a try yet."
Michigan only went through a light workout Monday after retuning home from Illinois, and Morgan received X-rays on the injured ankle that morning.
Beilein said those X-rays did not show any break in his ankle, but there does seem to be a rather significant sprain.
Morgan -- who has made 86 starts -- was injured two minutes into Michigan's win over the Illini. Sophomore forward Jon Horford started the second half, and split minutes with freshman Mitch McGary and redshirt freshman Max Bielfeldt for the rest of the game.
That trio combined to post 17 points and 14 rebounds.
If Morgan can't play Wednesday, Beilein said McGary or Horford will likely take his starting spot.
"It'd probably be Mitch or Jon," Beilein said. "With the experience Jon has over three years (including his redshirt season), even though he's been hurt a lot this year, and then Mitch's experience this year (make them the most likely candidates).
"But Max will get in there (at some point)."
Morgan is averaging 6.4 points and 5.2 rebounds for top-ranked Michigan -- who will travel to No. 3 Indiana on Saturday following the Northwestern game.
