Live blog: No. 2 Michigan opens Big Ten play at Northwestern
EVANSTON, Ill. --
FINAL: Michigan 94, Northwestern 66
-- Michigan's 94 points the most the team has scored in a Big Ten game since 2001. More later.
Michigan 87, Northwestern 58
-- 3:32, second half
Trey Burke's night is likely done -- 23 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds, 4 steals. Tim Hardaway Jr. likely finishes with 20, as Michigan starts to empty its bench.
Michigan 80, Northwestern 52
-- 7:35, second half
Trey Burke sparks an 8-0 run by giving a lob to Tim Hardaway Jr. for a dunk, finding Jordan Morgan on the break for a dunk and dropping in a floating tear-drop. He's making it look easy.
Michigan 70, Northwestern 48
-- 11:01, second half
Michigan now 10 of 17 from 3-point land this evening -- as this blowout continues. Burke with 19, Hardaway with 15, Robinson with 10. Michigan out-rebounding the Wildcats 27-13.
Michigan 63, Northwestern 39
-- 15:45, second half
Trey Burke's at his average already with 18 points, Tim Hardaway Jr.'s not too far behind with 14. The 51 points Michigan scored in the first half are the most the first-half points the Wolverines have put against a Big Ten opponent since 1998 against Indiana.
Michigan 51, Northwestern 30
Trey Burke scores 15 first-half points, Tim Hardaway Jr. adds 12 and this thing is bordering on a blood bath. Michigan shoots 59 percent from the floor, 8 of 12 from 3. Nik Stauskas with 7 points, Mitch McGary with 4 points and 5 rebounds.
Michigan 45, Northwestern 25
-- 4:23, first half
Tim Hardaway Jr. now 4 of 4 from 3-point range, he's got 12 points. Bill Carmody has now used 4 timeouts in the first half.
Michigan 35, Northwestern 19
-- 7:18, first half
Michigan starts the game 6 of 6 from 3-point range, and the Wolverines are completely clobbering the Wildcats right now. Bill Carmody has already used three timeouts, and NU seems to have no answer for anything here. Burke with 13, Hardaway with 6, Mitch McGary with 4 points and 4 rebounds.
Michigan 25, Northwestern 9
-- 12:04, first half
Burke eventually scores 13 straight points, he'll get a rest now. Nik Stauskas with five straight, including his first triple of the game. Wolverines 9 of 12 from the floor -- 4 of 4 from deep.
Michigan 10, Northwestern 0
-- 16:46, first half
Not sure if Northwestern has a player that can slow Trey Burke down by himself -- Burke goes on a personal 7-0 run, prompting a Wildcat timeout. NU looks a bit overmatched here early.
• Tim Hardaway Jr.'s good to go -- Michigan announces that Hardaway (ankle) will start tonight after missing the Central Michigan game. Starters: Trey Burke, Tim Hardaway Jr., Nik Stauskas, Glenn Robinson III and Jordan Morgan.
Big Ten play starts now.
No. 2 Michigan (13-0) will play just its second true road game of the season tonight in the league opener at Northwestern (7 p.m., ESPN2).
Michigan junior Tim Hardaway Jr. dressed and warmed up with the team prior to tipoff, but he's still likely a gametime decision.
Other than that, the Wolverines are ready to roll.
