Live blog: No. 2 Michigan a 16 1/2-point favorite at home tonight vs. Purdue
FINAL: Michigan 68, Purdue 53
-- More in a bit.
Michigan 64, Purdue 51
-- 1:57, second half
Purdue's gone cold, Michigan's defense has been much better after the break. Boilers are now 0 of 9 from deep. Burke with 13 and 8, Stauskas and Robinson each with 12 for Michigan.
Michigan 53, Purdue 42
-- 7:30, second half
Burke up to 13 points and 6 assists, Purdue's 0 of 6 from deep here in the second half. That's certainly not helping the Boilers.
Michigan 49, Purdue 40
-- 11:40, second half
Wolverines in the midst of a 10-0 run right now, Glenn Robinson III with two big triples to spark this thing. Lots of energy from Mitch McGary as well. Robinson's got 12 points and 7 boards to pace the Wolverines -- against his dad's old club.
Purdue 38, Michigan 37
-- 15:33, second half
Michigan's just playing ugly right now. Now way around it. Jordan Morgan's missing layups, the Wolverines are standing around on offense -- just sloppy, sloppy basketball.
Purdue 33, Michigan 32
Michigan trails at the half for just the third time this year, Purdue continues to just out-tough Michigan at just about every turn and corner. Wolverines 3 of 10 from 3, Trey Burke leads with way with 7 points and 4 assists. D.J. Byrd with 11 points to lead the Boilermakers, who are 7 of 13 from downtown.
Purdue 28, Michigan 26
-- 3:26, first half
Purdue's just working harder than Michigan right now. Plain and simple. Wolverines now 10 of 23 from the floor, Purdue 6 of 10 from 3. Every 50-50 ball has gone to the Boilermakers.
Michigan 24, Purdue 23
-- 6:25, first half
Michigan starting to push the pace a bit now, three unanswered layups gives the Wolverines their first lead in some time. Trey Burke with 7 points and 4 assists.
Purdue 19, Michigan 14
-- 11:09, first half
The Boilermakers are now 5 of 8 from long range, D.J. Byrd has hit some huge bombs here early. Purdue getting too many second-chance opportunities -- that's what this is boiling down to right now.
Purdue 11, Michigan 8
-- 15:48, first half
Purdue's 2 of 4 from downtown, Michigan's 3 of 3 from the floor -- but the Boilermakers have three offensive rebounds, that's the difference early. Nobody is better on the offensive glass, statistically, in the Big Ten than Purdue.
• Starters the same as usual for Michigan -- Burke, Hardaway, Stauskas, Robinson, Morgan.
• Something we don't see a lot of here -- a new hype video played on the big screen featuring highlights of several former Michigan teams. Including highlights of the 1993-94 squad, featuring Juwan Howard and Jalen Rose. A few Glen Rice cuts, Roy Tarpley -- interesting.
The last time Purdue visited Crisler Center, it stomped on Michigan's party, spoiling Zack Novak and Stu Douglass' senior night last February.
Fast forward to Thursday, and the second-ranked Wolverines are looking to pay back an up-and-down Boilermaker squad at 7 p.m. (ESPN).
Michigan (17-1, 4-1) enters the game as a 16 1/2-point favorite, but is just 2-6 against Purdue (10-8, 3-2) since 2007.
The Wolverines are also looking to keep pace with the rest of the one-loss teams in the Big Ten. Michigan State, who has played two more games than the Wolverines, currently leads the Big Ten at 6-1, while Indiana sits at 5-1.
A win won't put Michigan atop the Big Ten leader board, but it'll certainly keep the pressure on Indiana and Michigan State.
