Michigan's Trey Burke No. 2 on CBS' 'Player of the Year' watch list, ahead of Cody Zeller
He's only played three games this seaosn, but Trey Burke continues to grab national attention.
CBSsports.com's Jeff Goodman and Gary Parrish released their first 2012-13 "Player of the Year watch list" on Tuesday, and he ranked Burke at No. 2 overall.
The Michigan sophomore point guard is ahead of Indiana's Cody Zeller -- the early odds on favorite to win most college player of the year awards -- and behind Oklahoma State's Marcus Smart.
"Burke and the Wolverines haven't been tested in their first three games, but his numbers are still impressive - and has been his play," CBS wrote. "He's averaging 18.3 points and eight assists per game and is shooting 44 percent from deep. Michigan has plenty of talent, but there's no doubting who the star is in Ann Arbor."
Burke has been named a watch list member for both the Wooden and Naismith Awards.
No. 4 Michigan returns to the court Wednesday night (9:30 p.m., ESPN2) to take on Pittsburgh in the NIT Season Tip-Off semifinals at Madison Square Garden in New York.
