Michigan dancing in Auburn Hills? ESPN's Joe Lunardi gives UM a No. 3 seed at The Palace
Michigan hasn't played a regular season basketball game yet, but that won't stop NCAA Tournament prognosticators from looking ahead.
ESPN.com "bracketologist" Joe Lunardi updated his 2013 NCAA Tournament sheet Monday, and has No. 5 Michigan as a No. 3 seed.
He also has the Wolverines playing a virtual home game, at The Palace of Auburn Hills. The distance between the Crisler Center and The Palace is 53 miles.
In Lunardi's early projection, both Michigan and Michigan State are No. 3 seeds in Auburn Hills -- touching on logic that if both the Wolverines and Spartans land a No. 3 seed or higher, they'll likely be dancing in their own backyard.
Lunardi predicts that a total of seven Big Ten teams (No. 1 Indiana, No. 1 Ohio State, No. 3 Michigan State, No. 3 Michigan, No. 8 Minnesota, No. 9 Wisconsin and No. 12 Purdue).
Michigan, ranked No. 5 in both major preseason polls, has been labeled a Final Four candidate by multiple national prognosticators this season.
Sports Illustrated's Andy Glockner also gave Michigan a preseason No. 3 seed, but says the Wolverines will begin their NCAA Tournament journey in Kansas City.
The Wolverines haven't made a Sweet 16 since 1994, and haven't received a seed higher than No. 4 since 1998.
