Live blog: Michigan looks to snap skid against Iowa on senior day
ANN ARBOR --
Final: That'll do it, Michigan rolls. Ohio State up next
Michigan 42, Iowa 17
8:11-2:12 -- Iowa finally gets back on the board, Vandenburg hits Weisman for a 13-yard touchdown. Make it: Michigan 42, Iowa 17
14:15-8:11 -- Iowa drives all the way to the Michigan 12, but no further. The Michigan defense stuffs the Hawkeyes on fourth down, and takes over. Gardner back in the game at quarterback.
2:57-14:15 -- Michigan finally screws up. Devin Gardner is intercepted deep in Iowa territory. First miscue of the day.
4:33-2:57 -- Iowa has no interest in moving the ball, has all but quit. Michigan on the other hand, has not. Wolverines get it back on their own 23.
7:25-4:33 -- Devin Gardner's making it look easy now. Make it 6 touchdowns for Gardner, as he finds a wide open Devin Funchess for a 29-yard score. Funchess has his fifth touchdown of the season, and Gardner is now 17 of 21 for 294 yards and 3 scores through the air. He's also rushed for 3. Michigan 42, Iowa 10
8:41-7:25 -- Iowa doing nothing but going backward. Michigan defense revved up now, gets the offense the ball back. Here we go again, Michigan starts at its own 40.
15:00-8:41 -- Michigan has now scored touchdowns on all five of its possessions. And Devin Gardner has all five of them. Gardner caps an 81-yard drive with a 3-yard scoring run on a bootleg fake. He's now 14 of 17 for 246 yards and 2 TDs through the air, 8 carries, 32 yards and 3 TDs on the ground. Michigan 35, Iowa 10.
Halftime: Michigan has 331 yards, and a big lead. Michigan 28, Iowa 10
2:53-:40 -- Michigan goes 87 yards, and makes it look easy. Wolverines up to 331 yards of total offense in the first half as Devin Gardner throws his second touchdown of the game -- he's got four in the half -- an 18-yard screen to Vincent Smith. All Michigan. Michigan 28, Iowa 10
5:20-2:53 -- Iowa goes 3 and out, but a 60-yard punt pushes Michigan all the way back to its own 13. Devin Gardner back at QB.
9:26-5:20 -- Michigan goes 75 yards for another score. Devin Gardner finds Jeremy Gallon on a 51-yard pass play. He eventually caps the drive off with a one-yard plunge, his second of the day, on a bootleg play. Michigan 21, Iowa 10.
13:05-9:26 -- Michigan lets Iowa off the hook with a roughing the passer penalty on 3rd and 11. The Hawkeyes eventually settle for a 27-yard field goal from Mike Meyer. Wolverines still in front. Michigan 14, Iowa 10.
1:44-13:05 -- Denard Robinson rips off a 40-yard run that dazzles the crowd and Devin Gardner caps things off with a 37-yard touchdown pass to Roy Roundtree (on a 3rd and 17 now less). Michigan back in front. Michigan 14, Iowa 7
8:43-1:44 -- That might be one of the best drives Iowa has put together all season. A very physical, very tough 75-yard touchdown drive ties this one up. James Vandenburg finishes the 14-play drive (6:43 off the clock) with a 16-yard scoring pass to Henry Krieger Coble. Michigan 7, Iowa 7
13:31-8:43 -- Well, that drive had a little bit of everything. Denard Robinson starts the game -- at running back. He gets two carries and catches a pass. He also lined up at quarterback. In other news, Fitz Toussaint appeared to suffer a rather severe left leg injury -- he was carted off the field with his leg in a cast. In any event, Devin Gardner finishes off the drive with a 1-yard touchdown run. Michigan in front, and I'm out of breath. Michigan 7, Iowa 0
15:00-13:31 -- Iowa jumps offside on its first play from scrimmage, and ends up with a 3 and out. Michigan forces a punt, takes over on its own 30.
• Michigan wins the toss, defers. Iowa will receive. So we'll have to wait and see what Denard Robinson does today.
• Seniors on the field now getting introduced and honored, Elliott Mealer's brother, Brock, joined him on the field. Pretty cool.
• Injury notes: Sophomore linebacker Desmond Morgan is not dressed today and will not play. Officially labeled as a "boo-boo," from Brady Hoke. Freshman defensive end Mario Ojemudia is dressed, though, and is expected to play.
• Well, Denard Robinson was on the field for warmups yet again today. And yet again, it didn't look great. Robinson took snaps, took short pass reps. But when the quarterbacks lined up to throw 15 to 20-yard passes, he opted out. Arm strength doesn't look to be there, it'd be surprising to see him play again today.
The Michigan senior class has one more shot to beat Iowa, and one more shot to perform in Michigan Stadium.
All of that happens this afternoon.
The Wolverines (7-3, 5-1) will honor their seniors at 12 p.m. (ESPN) prior to kicking off their 2012 home finale against the Hawkeyes (4-6, 2-4), who have beaten Michigan three straight times.
Though Iowa holds a winning streak over Michigan, its recent fortunes with the rest of the Big Ten haven't been as fortunate, as Kirk Ferentz's bunch has dropped four straight.
And, once again this week, all eyes will be on senior Denard Robinson -- whether he's standing on the field or wearing a headset on the sideline with an injured right elbow. If he can't go, expect Devin Gardner to get his third straight start.
