Michigan CB Blake Countess undergoes surgery, tweets photo
It appears Michigan cornerback Blake Countess has undergone surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee.
"Thank you all for the prayers and good luck wishes. My surgery went very well @ Kensington Court" the sophomore tweeted Thursday.
Countess rose into the starting lineup last year as a true freshman, and was expected to be a stalwart in Michigan's defensive backfield this year. One quarter in, though, those hopes were dashed when he tore his ACL while on punt coverage against Alabama.
Junior Courtney Avery replaced Countess against the Crimson Tide, but sophomore Raymon Taylor has since claimed the starting job opposite J.T. Floyd.
Michigan has missed his experience in the backfield, but carried on without him. The Wolverines rank No. 1 in the Big Ten in pass defense.
Countess had 44 tackles, six pass breakups and one forced fumble as a freshman. He will take a redshirt for this season and retain his sophomore status next year.
