The Ann Arbor Branch of the Woman’s National Farm & Garden Association (AAF&G) invites nonprofit organizations to apply for funds to support horticultural and environmental education programs or community service projects.

The grant application may be found on the Ann Arbor Farm and Garden website. Applications are due Nov. 1.

Carrie Riedeman, publicity chair for the AAF&G, explained that the entire focus of the philanthropy organization is to serve the local community. Since 1946, the AAF&G has donated more than $450,000 to encourage and sustain educational and community projects related to horticulture and the environment. The June Garden Walk is the primary source of funds, plus other supplementary events. They hope to raise $20,000 this year in honor of the 20th anniversary of the Garden Walk.

Awards and scholarships have been granted to a wide variety of agencies, including the University of Michigan School of Natural Resources, the Gaffield Children's Garden at Matthaei Botanical Gardens, the Michigan 4H Leadership Program, Growing Hope, Cobblestone Farm, Glacier Hills Retirement Community and Agrarian Adventure.

Rideman said they want to fund projects that educate or serve the community, whether landscaping, vegetable gardens or children's projects. They're looking for projects that "bring people out to enjoy the outdoors," and there is no minimum or maximum limit in the applications.

Find the grant application at the AAF&G website.
