Meditation on gratitude can lift your spirits
One way that helps me get out of a funk is listing everything I’m grateful for.
I start with the obvious: the people in my life that support me and love me. Next I ask, what else?
Usually this goes to my health, even if I’m sick or injured. I focus on what is working well. For example, right now I have a cold, but I’m still able to write. I’m sure you get the idea.
So far the list comes easily, and my mood hasn’t shifted much. I keep going and going, though. I’m thankful for the carpet in the living room, the pattern on the carpet, the color in the pattern.
Then I notice I’m getting a little punchy. Whatever was bothering me has faded. I’m letting go and enjoying the moment. At this point my list is so long that I’m becoming entertained by its ridiculousness. I’m grateful for the colorful threads of the curtain, which are pretty as they move in a slight breeze and filter out the brightness of the sun.
Although meditating on this list — similar to last week's blog — can be soothing, I suggest taking it further.

Throughout your day, be aware of everything that supports you and the people and things you care about. When you’re stopped at a traffic light, be grateful for order; at the grocery store, be grateful for the choices you have.
Try this day-long meditation on gratitude and let me know how it goes.
