Seeing inner lights in meditation can be absorbing and relaxing

Last night I watched the fireflies, or lightning bugs, as we called them when we were children. The randomness of their flickering is captivating and can easily take me into meditation.

When I was meditating this morning, I became aware of the randomness of seeing inner lights. Sometimes I see different colors of light as if projected on a screen between my eyes. This began shortly after I had a regular meditation practice.

Unlike with fireflies whose bioluminescence helps them find mates, I don’t cognitively understand the nature of the inner lights I “see” in meditation. I’ll leave that to the mystics or someday the scientists. What I experience, however, is how soothing it is to follow the patterns as the lights pulsate, change color, expand and contract making beautiful, crystal-like images.

Somehow these lights are part of my inner nature and as with watching nature, I find it absorbing and relaxing. It puts me in a state of wonder and appreciation.

As a mental health professional, an owner of a fitness studio, a writer and a wife, mother and grandmother, I have found meditation to be helpful in every aspect of my life. As above, so below... or within, yes? The moon was so beautiful last night after the storms, whisps of clouds surrounding its fullness. It's image made its way into my inner visions during meditiation. Wonderful!
