Have you hit the resolution wall yet? Here are some tips to keep you on track

By Melissa Gerharter MS, RD

Resolutions are always made with the very best intentions. Funny how life gets in the way, though. Here's the thing: adopting a new, healthy habit is something you'll need to recommit to everyday to be successful.

Here are some tips for staying on track with your new commitment to fitness:

Keep track of your workouts! Being able to see, longterm, the results of your efforts is motivating.

Try taking a class. If you find yourself bored or unmotivated, try a fitness class. You'll find that comradery makes workouts fun, and not having to think about what to do for a workout simplifies everything.

Force yourself to do something different, every time. While routine is great for establishing a habit, it's the short route to boredom. The same training every day is also the long way to results. You've got to have a healthy blend of cardio, strength and flexibility in your workouts for them to actually work. Keep your body guessing to get the most out of your valuable time.

Get out of your comfort zone. You're working out to achieve fitness, right? Working out should be hard work! If you're not uncomfortable during your workouts — elevated heart rate, sore muscles and truly challenged — you're wasting your time.
