Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice and U-M student group host candlelight vigil against homelessness
The Interfaith Council for Peace and Justice student group at the University of Michigan invites the public to its Candlelight Vigil against Homelessness. Join community members and students as they light candles of hope for the more than 4,500 Washtenaw County residents who wander the streets on any given night searching for a warm bed, a hot meal and someone to care. Listen to testimonies from residents of local youth homeless shelters, sing, pray and take a stance to advocate for people that have no one and nowhere to turn.
"It is our intent and hope that this vigil will shed light on the overall issue of homelessness and make sure these individuals are not forgotten,” said Chuck Warpehoski, director of ICPJ. “We hope to make a difference in the lives of those struggling with homelessness in our community.”
WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 4, 8-9 p.m.
WHERE: On the Diag of the University of Michigan campus in front of the Hatcher Graduate Library.
DETAILS: We will be accepting personal care items at the event. These items will be donated to the Delonis Center, a local homeless shelter.
