In a career spanning over 15 years, Natalie Merchant has strived to weave a deep social consciousness and an intense spirituality into music that runs a narrow gamut from sprightly folk-pop to moody balladry. First rising to fame at the helm of the popular folk-rock band 10,000 Maniacs with songs such as "Eat for Two" and "Like the Weather", Natalie Merchant subsequently enjoyed even greater success as a solo performer as her plaintive vocals and literate, socially conscious songs established her among the preeminent female performers in contemporary pop. With her albums Tigerlily and Ophelia, Merchant owned the airwaves with hits like "Wonder" and "Kind & Generous". Natalie celebrates her latest artistic achievement Leave Your Sleep, a collection of introspective poetry and song showcasing the works of E.E. Cummings, Robert Graves and Ogden Nash, as she tours in 2010.
