On display Dec. 4-Jan. 9: "Father Christmas", hand crafted figures created by John W. Mitchell, Sr. “Featured Artist Series” - Running concurrently on the gallery's second level during the Barry Avedon exhibition. During the 5th century in the area of Myra now Turkey; Nicholas was the Bishop of Myra and befriended his parish during advent. He was canonized as St. Nicholas and his feast day is December 6th. This day was and still is celebrated as Christmas in many parts of the world. Mitchell's works are interpretations of this beloved Saint. Using vintage fabrics, toys and accents, John believes his Father Christmases’/St. Nicholas’ convey the warm and generous spirit of this wonderful man and our Christmas season.
